FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 1/2/19

Quite the yucky day with cooler temps in the mid 50's, sprinkles here and there and wind just about all day. Winds have calmed down a bit this evening though. 50% chance of rain as well as winds 5-10mph are set to follow us into tomorrow.

Despite the gloomy day, the bit has continued to be on down in Hatteras. BlowToads, Flounder and Sea Mullet continue to dominate right now! Not a lot of fresh bait available on the island right now, but frozen will always work!

Get out there and get your line wet! We'll wish for Tight Lines!

FRANK & FRAN’S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 3/1/19:
......And we’re back! Now we just need all of you to come and see us! We sure do wish the fishing was currently as good as some are reporting, unfortunately there’s still not a great deal going on. There are only scattered, VERY scattered reports of Sea Mullet and Drum. The only thing for sure being caught is shark! Like the one our friend, Harris, caught!

Lots of great things still in the works for 2019 and lots already in store! Come and see us!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 3-2-19:

Thankful for the folks that are keeping us updated on the fishing reports out there! Friend of F&F, Bob Spangler, let us know about a few small Bluefish caught down on Ramp 55 South. A few Skates, Sharks, smooth Dogfish are also being reported. Still not much going on out of the surf, but here at the shop, things are really happening!

Hoodies March Madness is in full swing as supplies last, we're getting low on select sizes!

Check out the front of the shop! The letters are all missing.....that's because we're getting ready to paint!

Wonder what color? Take a guess and let us know what your guess is in comments!

Pictures to come as the progress begins!

April 2019 Fishing Reports

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 5/4/19

To be early May it felt like a mid June day today with temps reaching the mid 80's! That didn't stop the fishing though! Most of the island is catching Sea Mullet, Blues and Spanish! Make sure you've got your metal ready to sling out there!

Frisco reported a 2lb 13oz Pompano and Hatteras had small Blues most of the day on cut bait!

Rylee (Great Granddaughter to original owner Frank Folb and daughter of Laken Elizabeth Tinsley) caught this beautiful Sea Mullet today and is one proud Fisher Girl! Keep it up Rylee!

And to keep with trend the Catawba County Boys, yet again slayed the Sea Mullet and have enough for an awesome fish fry!

Our very own Heather Patterson James and hubby, Tim James, had a great day of fishing, getting a deck full of Spanish and Blues!

Cobia are definitely here! Ian Folb (Grandson of Frank Folb) and his friend brought in these beauties today caught off of a boat just north of the Rodanthe Pier!

Thanks to everyone for coming in and sharing pics! Open Tomorrow 6am-7pm!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 5/1/2019

Salvo also reported Spanish, Sea Mullet and Blues. Avon Pier had Grey Trout as well as the Sea Mullet and Blues. Frisco and Hatteras both reporting Sea Mullet, Blues and Small Flounder with the catches slowing down a bit.

Beautiful week ahead of us, come on out!

Luckily that has ended and as the sun comes up it looks to be the beginning of a beautiful day! https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/nc/avon/27915 shows temps in the mid 70's today with diminishing winds throughout the day!

4Plus 4WD Tournament begins today and we wish all the anglers Good Luck and Tight Lines!

300lbs of fresh mullet arrived late last night just in time for today! Come and get it!

Frankie is pictured here having fun catching some blowtoads. Way to go Frankie!

Heather had a chance to go to Portsmouth Island this week and try out the new Ninja Tackle King James rig. It did a great job catching blues and sea mullet. Stop in and grab one and give it a try.

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 4/14/19

While the weather was decent 70% of the day we still had strong winds and some rain. Rain at times was quite heavy and chased folks off the beach.

There was still some decent fishing going on as Rodanthe Pier had Blues, Sea Mullet, Blowtoads and one Puppy Drum. Avon beaches had Blowtoads as well as a few Blues. Frisco down to Hatteras reported Sheepshead, Black Drum, Pups and Blowtoads!

Don't forget that the best hook and bait for those Blowtoads are the long shank hooks as the Blowtoads have a beak like mouth and they're less likely to swallow the long shank hooks. Shrimp and FishBites Bloodworms have been the bait of choice!

Wonder what else you might need? Come in and we'll fill you in and get you set up!

12 year old, Daniel Hair, from Lexington, NC caught this beautiful 6lb Black Drum today! His dad also caught a Puppy Drum! Great job guys and thanks for sharing!

FRANK & FRAN’S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT 4/12/19

Until then here’s a look at Frank & Fran’s through the years!

Still not much on the fishing front to report today as the weather has just been crappy! Lots of folks coming in and asking about fishing, what's been biting, what's the best bait, etc. etc. Many times we've said that sand fleas make amazing bait right now and we get that "deer in the headlights" look.

BTW, the ones with the eggs sacks are the best for bait! Not only do we sell them fresh at times, we also sell them frozen. Or we can even teach you how to catch them yourself!

Tight Lines and See you soon!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 6/11/19

Some crazy storms came across the island this morning bring some wicked lightening and heavy rain. Once it passed we were left with a mostly cloudy day until a beautiful sunset and rainbow showed up to close out the evening.

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FOURTH OF JULY FISHING REPORT

The morning started out a bit cloudy and questionable, but the afternoon and early evening has turned out to be absolutely beautiful! Spot, Croaker, Sea Mullet and Blues continue to be caught with a great Spanish bite early morning and late evening at Ramp 38 again last night!

Ramp 38 will be a happening spot tonight as its the closest open ORV ramp to the Avon Pier with many people coming to grill out, enjoy some beverages, friends, family and fireworks! We ask everyone to remain safe and courteous to each other! Though we're normally all about fishing, please watch out for the kids in the water this evening, let's not chunk anyone in the head with a sting silver or a 4oz weight! That will definitely put a damper on the celebration!

Remember this is the day that so many man and women have fought for us to have, to enjoy and to celebrate! We are Americans and We are Proud!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 9/1/19

We're all watching Dorian and where it plans to go next. Obviously its still too far out to make any concrete predictions, but we ask that you stay tuned to our website and facebook page as we will keep you posted on any new information that we receive.

As for fishing today, the waters were still fishable with most of the fish being caught from Buxton, north. Sea Mullet, Spot, Spanish, Blues and Speckled Trout in the sound still dominate the reports!

Tomorrow may be the last good day this week to get out there, so get up early, stop by, get your fresh bait, a cup of coffee and get out there!

We'll be here from 6am - 9pm!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT 9/2/2019
Well I am sure all our friends and family have heard about Hurricane Dorian that is headed our way. The seas are already angry, and fishing has been spotty. There is a mandatory evacuation for all visitors to Hatteras Island starting tomorrow Sept 3 at 12 noon. National Park Service stated that all vehicle access ramps will be closing at 9 PM tonight, and will remain closed until after Dorian has passed.
We are battening down the hatches our selves here at Frank and Fran's and looking forward to a very good fall season of fishing!

HURRICANE DORIAN HIT ON SEPTEMBER 6th, 2019 leaving in its path LOTS of Water and Mud!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 9/11/19

Let us not forget today and the EVIL events of 9/11. Let us be thankful for all we have.

Welcome Back to Hatteras Island, we're sorry Dorian interrupted our regularly programmed Fishing Report (and a whole lot more!) but, WE'RE BACK and we hope you are too!

With people just entering today and getting back out on the beaches, the fishing report is limited. However, Ramp 38 was flopping with excitement with Sea Mullet, Pompano, Spanish and Puppy Drum. We also heard about Blues in good numbers being caught out at the point tonight!

Tomorrow the remainder of the island opens up to visitors. PLEASE be Patient and Kind as many still have yet to get their homes or businesses back and order but we're all doing our best to welcome you! We appreciate every single one of our customers and we look forward to seeing you!

Open 6am - 9pm tomorrow with Fresh Mullet, Shrimp, Bloodworms, Squid, Sand Fleas and more! Come and get it!

If you should make any attempt to fish in the rough conditions, please be sure to take extra care of yourself as well as friends and loved ones who may be out there with you.

Fishing on the island today has been a challenge to say the least. It is taken a lot of weight to hold bottom, if holding bottom is even possible! The anglers that did brave the conditions today were reporting Puppy Drum, Blue Fish, and a few Sea Mullet. We would like to wish the Outcasters fishing team Good Luck Tomorrow in the Nags Head Fishing Tournament.

FRANK AND FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT-10/09/2019

Today was another rough day. The water temperature is 71 degrees at the Rodanthe Pier and a big drum was landed up there today. The Avon Pier closed early due to rough conditions. We had reports of bluefish from Buxton south down to Hatteras. The speckled trout fishing is still good on the sound and sound side fishing is a good way to get out of the angry surf.

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 10/1/19

Hotober today for sure, but beautiful none the less. Strong winds and waves caused some ocean overwash at a couple spots on the island today, which we could certainly do without!
Winds will diminish overnight then switch directions for a nice SW wind tomorrow evening.

Fishing continued to be rough today, but with the water temps still so warm, in the high 70's, folks were catching the normal summertime slam of Sea Mullet, Pompano, Blues, Spot, and Croaker. Hatteras reported a few keeper Pups caught down their way today as well!

October 5th is the Avon Fishing Pier NC Annual Fish Like A Girl Tournament! We'll have all your supplies ready to go as well as fresh bait! Don't miss out on the fun!

FRANK & FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 11/13/19

Today has been one of those frigid, windy, chapped face, natural exfoliation kind of days! Terrible for fishing, great for staying in with a couple warm drinks!

We didn't hear of may folks out there today chasing after those citation Sea Mullet, but we have a STACK of citations, pictured below, ready to be sent off to the state! The Sea Mullet catches whether, Northern Mullet, Southern Mullet or Gulf Mullet have been incredible this year and we'd like to Congratulate each and every angler who was able to get in on that action! Here's to hoping it continues!

As for the point tonight, our own John Embrey was able to reel in a big, beautiful, 44" Drum this evening just at sunset!

Tomorrow should be a much better day for fishing prior to the BLOW this weekend! Get out there and enjoy it! We'll be open from 6am - 7pm!

FRANK AND FRAN'S HATTERAS ISLAND FISHING REPORT - 11/12/2019
Well boys and girls in typical Hatteras fashion, the weather has went from beautiful to cold, windy, and rainy within 24 hours. There was a nice Red Drum bite on this morning at the point before the weather changed.Several big drum were caught.

Following up on yesterdays report of the 3lb 1oz Sea Mullet caught by Brett Jordan. Upon further investigation by Stephanie here at the shop, and a couple of calls to the IGFA it was discovered that all though there is a North Carolina record Sea Mullet that weighed in at 3lb 8 oz back in 1971, that fish was not documented by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). The current IGFA World Record for Southern Kingfish is 2lb 13 oz.

So with that being said and pending the approval of the application for the new World Record by the IGFA, We would like to congratulate Brett Jordan again on his New World Record

The Hatteras drum fishing family lost a member today. Nick Durney also known as Uncle Nick by those that had the opportunity to fish with him, passed away. Please keep the Durney family in your thought and prayers.
