Knot Tying 101

Knot Tying 101

There are SO many different fishing knots you can tie. Some are easier than others, stronger than others, more streamlined, etc. Our crew at Frank and Fran’s have a few knots that come in at the top of the leaderboard due to their strength and simplicity to tie.

Highlights of a Uni Knot:

  1. Strength: It maintains a strong hold, making it ideal for various fishing lines and conditions.
  2. Versatility: It can be used for attaching hooks, lures, and swivels to the line, as well as connecting two lines together (also known as a Uni to Uni knot)
  3. Low Profile: Its streamlined design allows it to pass smoothly through guides, reducing the chances of snagging.

Highlights of a Snell Knot:

  1. Secure Connection: The Snell knot provides a strong, secure connection between the line and the hook, minimizing the risk of it slipping or breaking.
  2. Better Bait Presentation: Because the hook is angled properly, it helps present live bait or lures more effectively, making them more enticing to fish.
  3. Durability: The knot can handle heavy weights and strong pulls without failing, making it reliable in challenging fishing conditions.

How to tie a uni to uni knot:

This is a perfect knot to tie mono to mono, braid to mono or even braid to braid. Tie on your shock leader or splice into your backing on your reel with this knot.

How to tie a snell knot:

Perfect for any size hook but strong enough to pull in a big red drum, a snell may take a bit more practice. However, this knot is very popular among many fishermen for its strength.
