Autumn and winter might be a bit slower than spring and summer here on Hatteras Island, but it’s still a wonderful time of the year. The off-season is a time to recharge and truly take in the easy-going pace of the island. Whether fishing, walking on the beach, or just sitting outside to soak in some winter sun and warmth, it can be nice to have a fine cigar to kick back with. There is a lot more to cigars than people may think, as I myself am learning. There are several lengths and widths and names for the sizes; several wrappers, fillers and binders. Below I’ll list some of our best sellers at Frank & Fran’s and some recommendations of certain types.

Most cigar smokers that check out our humidor seem to prefer a more mellow smoke. Not too strong but still possessing some good flavor notes. Some of the most popular cigars we sell are Macanudos, specifically the Macanudo Cafe. This cigar has a smooth, mellow smoke with a touch of creamy sweetness. It comes in many sizes, most popular being the Caviar, a shorter cigar that is perfect for beginner smokers and aficionados alike. It is also in an affordable price range, being around five dollars. Macanudo also has the Inspirado Series, The Inspirado White being another best seller, having the creamy Macanudo flavor with a bit of spice.

Deadwood Tobacco Company: Sweet Jane, Leather Rose, and Fat Bottom Betty

Another top-selling brand we carry is The Deadwood Tobacco Company. The three Deadwoods we carry (Fat Bottom Betty, Sweet Jane, Leather Rose) all have a Maduro wrapper, making them bolder than Macanudo Cafes. They sport a more earthy flavor with little touches of sweetness. Some of our higher-end best-sellers are the Arturo Fuente Best Seller (yep, that’s the name!) and the Short Story. Both are essentially the same cigar; the Best Seller having a bit of a longer burn time as it’s a bit longer and wider. Both cigars have a woody flavor, citing maple and cedar, and a bit of spice to them as well.
